A sign of the times…
when i was little, we’d pass by a micky-d’s and the entire peanut gallery of my mom’s ford taurus would go nutso. we loved our golden arches…and i’m sure we weren’t alone…
my son has only ever eaten wendy’s and that has been on a dire – D.I.R.E – occasion… and only then does he get a kids meal – a chicken nugget kids meal that requires me to pick off all the msg-ladend breading … fries… no, he gets mandrian oranges and 2% milk. so in an essance – he’s getting the most ultra-dull meal ever… though i have been inclined once or twice to splurge on the fast food treat and share a baby frosty with him… the entire time though i am cringing at what long term eating habits i’m instilling in him.
so – today, momma was in need of a little guilty pleasure… starbucks. becoming a mom makes you realize the simpler things in life really are the most pleasurable… like a grande, 120-degree, tazo chai latte with whip. heaven on earth… or well, at least heaven in my ford explorer.
so we pull up to the driveway of starbucks and my peanut gallery goes nutso. “star..bucks momma, starbucks” ahhhh, yes… master d is fully aware of momma’s finer guilty pleasures… i pull up and order my drink and make nice with the barista (ever since i read “starbucks changed my life… i can’t help but love the baristas @ starbucks)… his name is Ben, he’s cute…and very “g-a-y”… and he’s my new starbucks boyfriend… (bye-bye Bailey, the cute Polaris Parkway Barista from starbucks, bye-bye) …
I feel guilt – like most mothers do… and so I order Dylan his over-priced organic juice box and a H.U.G.E. peanut butter cookie (to share with me of course).
And – Ben had me roll down Dylan’s window so he could give him his juice box… and I’ve never seen my son act so cool…so grown up.
i have just created a starbucks monster…
